AEE and be Seen: The woman that witnessed Chinese history
Three eras:
Ancient times
Latter Times: Culture Revolution
Modern Times
I appear in different eras with a changed head, expressing strong curiosity and uneasiness to the background. It looks so disharmonious. Those words are picked out according to women’s social environment of the time. For example, in ancient times, there are “rules of obedience and moral self-restrictions”, “needlecraft”, “taking care of husband and children”, “fealty rules for women”, “the Analects for women”, “chasteness”; in culture revolution, there are “great socialism”, “respectful Chairman Mao”, “story of red light”, “creek of the Sha family”; in modern times, there are “super girl”, “abortion”, “Gao Jin Sumei”, “feminism”. The audience can click on the words and choose pictures and music they are interested in.
This production takes “my” head as the angle of view, meaning to represent my feeling in the three eras. In ancient times, I’m lonely and curious, like a fish out of water. In culture revolution, I still cannot adapt to the social environment. In modern times, I look like a buffoon, cannot acclimatize myself to the surroundings. The feeling of maladjustment exists in all the three eras but it differs from time to time. Maybe the common ground is uneasiness and unquietness.
